Ratiu Foundation Travel Scholarships

As part of its mission to promote the study of Romanian language, culture and civilisation around the world, the Ratiu Foundation offers Romanian Travel Scholarships to students and researchers at all levels, engaged in Romanian Studies in Canada and the USA. .

Four Ratiu Travel Scholarships worth $500 each were offered in 2003 and another seven in 2004 to encourage North American students of Romanian to participate in the Romanian Summer School Program offered in Cluj, Romania in July by Babes-Bolyai University in association with Arizona State University of Phoenix/Tempe, Arizona, USA.

For the 2004-2005 academic year, there are four Ratiu Travel Scholarships of $500 each available.

Ratiu Travel Scholarships are viewed by the Ratiu Foundation's Trustees as seed-funding, designed to enable successful applicants to supplement their Ratiu Scholarship with further funding from other sources.

Application and Eligibility
Ratiu Travel Scholarships are administered by Professor Ileana Orlich of Arizona State University and Nicolae Ratiu, Chairman of the Ratiu Foundation.

To apply for a Ratiu Travel Scholarship, here are the steps you need to take:
1. Apply for Admission to the ASU/BBU Summer School in Romania (http://www.public.asu.edu/~orlich/cluj.html).
2. Make your first payment (orlich@asu.edu) towards your Summer School fee.
3. Email a double-spaced two-page essay to: mail@ratiufamilyfoundation.com, on the subject: “How will my Romanian School experience enrich my studies and further my long-term educational and career goals?”
4. Email your CV to: mail@ratiufamilyfoundation.com

Adjudication
Ratiu Travel Scholarships are adjudicated by the Trustees of the Ratiu Foundation, on the basis of your double-sided, two page essay.

Eligibility
Candidates must be enrolled in a full-time course in an accredited university/institute in USA or Canada.
Ratiu Travel Scholarships constitute single year seed funding rather than full scholarships. For additional funding, you are advised to apply for a Ratiu Award early in the year (from November of the preceding year) and should you be successful, use it, if necessary, to seek further funding from other sources.
